THE DYING KING

The DESTINY

of big cats in

AFRICA

In the 1940s, the wild lion population in Africa was about 450,000 strong.

To date the population has decreased to less than 20,000 free living lions in Africa.

LIONSROCK

LIONSROCK is a big cat sanctuary lead by the worldwide known organization FOUR PAWS.

The sanctuary is located close to Bethlehem, South Africa, three hours south of Johannesburg and provides a species-appropriate, livelong home for big cats that were held captive in unacceptable conditions, like zoos, circuses or private captivity.

Since 2007, FOUR PAWS has undertaken research in several countries and stepped in on this issue, in order to save big cats worldwide and provide them with an appropriate lifelong home.

LIONSROCK is now home to more than 100 big cats from all around the world.

We aim to create an enlightening documentary about the work at LIONSROCK and the destiny of lions living in captivity.

"Not a single lion bred under the current captive conditions has any conservation value."

- Ian Michler, lead character in the film Blood Lions

Who is behind the project?

Andreas Knuffmann, founder and CEO of boomerang filmproduktion, with a team of committed, talented and sensitive colleagues.

In cooperation with the worldwide operating animal welfare organization FOUR PAWS and the team of LIONSROCK.

We have started a crowdfunding project on Startnext,  where you have the chance to support us with an amount of your choice and help create an informative documentary that can hopefully bring an end to this crucial industry.

Furthermore FOUR PAWS has started a petition against canned lion hunting  which you can (and should) sign with only a few clicks.

Once 300,000 signatures have been collected, they will be hand over to South Africans President Jacob Zuma, with the request of finally forbidding canned lion hunting - once and for all!

"We have found out about a cruel breeding and hunting farm in South Africa and could not even imagine that this company operated its business legally. "

"Those animal-despising companies can only be stopped through public pressure and the distribution of critical films."

CANNED HUNTING

South Africa has an estimated wild lion population of 4,000 - compared to 8,000 lions living in captivity. The sharp decline in the lion population is caused by the brutal lion killing industry known as CANNED HUNTING!

Around 180 farms across South Africa bread lions, domesticate them and sell them after 4-5 years to so called hunting farms, where they are released in a larger compound until they get shot. Tourists or rather semi-professional hunters are willing to pay up to US$40,000 for the trophy of a dead male lion.

We have all heard about those farms. Farms where you can pet young lions. Farms where you can walk with lions. Most of those farms claim to be wildlife sanctuaries trying to save the species. But in fact, they lure in foreign volunteers and tourists and make money with a brutal, unacceptable industry.

We have to love them, to take care of them - they are our heritage!“
